John Oestmann Scholarship Fund
March 1
Prosper UMC will begin giving the John Oestmann Memorial Scholarship to a deserving senior boy from PUMC. The application process will begin in March.
John Oestmann was a big man with a big heart. He lived in and died in Prosper and was a member of Prosper UMC. He spent SIX summers volunteering at Bridgeport Camp. Without a doubt, had he not died suddenly in November of 2014, he would still be volunteering!
“John Oestmann taught me everything I needed to know about what a real Christian looked like.” ~ Jack Wilburn
He didn’t just volunteer at Bridgeport. He IMMERSED himself into it. Not sure when Bridgeport was coming up? Just watch for John to show up at church with a mohawk haircut. Not just any mohawk. The brighter the color, the better. Imagine being a 9 year-old boy showing up to church camp and in walks a giant man with a pink mohawk!
When John passed, he left a giant hole in the heart of his family, PUMC and his community. He had served in the National Guard in an artillery unit. While he wasn’t showing soldiers where to point their cannons, he was playing with high-voltage electricity as a commercial electrician. One look at his tattoo of a smiley face with an electric bolt and you knew you were dealing with a character!
We honor and remember John Oestmann for his service to God and others. We keep his memory alive by awarding a scholarship in his memory to a well-deserving young man.
