Friday, October 20, 2023:
Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.
Read: 1 Peter 5:1-5
Peter describes qualities of an effective leader for God. Leaders are not leaders by virtue of a title. Instead, they are people who, like a good shepherd:
- Lead because they love God and His people, not because they want money or power.
- Lead by example, not force or pushiness.
- Respect those older than them; listen to those younger than them. Interact with humility, being open to what we can learn from each other.
Be still and Reflect: How would you describe your leadership style? (BTW, Everyone is a leader somewhere.) In what one area of Peter’s list of qualities can you improve and grow? What is one step you can take today to do so?
Pray:
Loving God, receive this prayer for our pastors and leaders. We thank You for those who answered Your call to lead in some way so that our church can fulfill Your plan for us within our communities and with all who come to us. We thank You for our pastors, committee members and teams, our teachers of all age groups, and for all who support our ministries both on the front lines and behind the scenes.
Lord, lay out this coming season and year ahead to be one in which they grow deeper in their relationship with You, serve cheerfully and willingly, and give honor to Your Holy Name. Pour out Your Spirit on these leaders. Light in them the desire to do what is right according to Your Word and to serve as a role model in the pattern of Jesus Christ. May all of us, Lord, seek to work together in peace and harmony to establish Your kingdom here with this church, our communities, and throughout the world. In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
