Monday, November 13, 2023:
Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.
Read: 1 Corinthians 14:20-25
Paul reminded the Corinthians that even the most mysterious spiritual gifts, like speaking in tongues, are subject to a practical standard: Does this spiritual gift build up the church? John Wesley noted that the criterion for determining the value of all gifts is its usefulness in building up and growing the community of believers as imitators of Christ’s love.
Be still and Reflect: Many varieties of spiritual gifts exist (see Romans 12:4-11; 1 Corinthians 12:7-10; or Ephesians 4:11). Consider which one(s) the Lord has given you (or discover your gifts through the Spiritual Gifts Inventory here.) How can you use your spiritual gift(s) to unify the body of Christ and to build up or equip others to serve in ministry?
Pray: Come, Holy Spirit, giver and enabler of all spiritual gifts. Help me to appreciate the variety that exists and is given to Your church. Reveal to me what and how I can contribute to the unity of faith through my gifts and graces in the surrounding community of Prosper United Methodist Church. Point me to where I can steward my gifts to draw others to Yourself, mature in imitating our Lord and Savior, and glorify our Father-God. By Your power in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
