Read: Exodus 35:30 – 36:7
Weaving Skills to Create a Unified Whole
… He [God] has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as
engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—
all of them skilled workers and designers…
the people are bringing much more than enough to do the work.
(Exodus 35:35, 36:5 NIV)
It was a great problem to have…so many freewill offerings for the construction of the tabernacle that Moses had to halt further gifts. And the Lord instructed Moses in how to weave all the skills and resources together to build His holy sanctuary – the place He would reside with them while they were on the road to the Promised Land.
Similarly, the Lord has gathered into Prosper United Methodist Church a diverse array of talents and resources to mirror the body of Christ as described in Ephesians 4:13. Woven together by the Father and equipped by His Holy Spirit, each member plays a unique but important role in building up the body toward Christ’s fullness.
As each part contributes, PUMC flourishes, becoming a vibrant tapestry of ministries, within and beyond our walls. Consider what our church could become in the years ahead if we each generously offer our skills and resources to empower each member along their discipleship journey and serve in ministry and mission to others.
Be still and Reflect: What ministries or missions do you sense God is weaving together with the diverse talents, gifts, and experiences found in our church? How is God calling you to think or act differently in response to today’s passage?
Pray: Lord God, thank You for the gifts and talents You have given me and those You fitted together as Prosper UMC. Help all of us to use them to build up Your church body and glorify You. Just as you gave Bezalel and Oholiab the skills they needed to build the tabernacle, give each of us the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding we need to do the work you call us to do, both individually and as a whole church body. Guide us to faithfully steward the resources given and to use them to bless others. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
By His Grace,
Gloria
