Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.

Read: Luke 22:27-30 The Reward of Servanthood

Who would you rather be: the one who eats the dinner or the one who serves the dinner? You’d rather eat and be served, right? But I’ve taken my place among you as the one who serves. And you’ve stuck with me through thick and thin. Now I [Jesus] confer on you the royal authority my Father conferred on me so you can eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and be strengthened as you take up responsibilities among the congregations of God’s people.
Luke 22:27-30, Message

Read this passage carefully. At the last supper, Jesus is recognizing his disciples’ faithfulness and alluding to their reward for standing by him through thick and thin. It will be greater than what they, or we, can imagine.

Jesus grants them the same royal authority that God gave him to share the good news boldly and confidently. While trouble is ahead for them, the Holy Spirit will strengthen them to fulfill their responsibilities among God’s people. And their faithfulness will be rewarded by giving them a seat at the Messianic 7-course meal banquet table in his kingdom.

As the Father sent His Son, so now Jesus sends us. He confers on us the same royal authority to share the good news boldly and confidently. He empowers and strengthens us with his Holy Spirit to fulfill our responsibilities among God’s people. Through that abiding power and presence of Christ in us and us abiding in him, we can overcome any obstacle in our lives and any dark place in the world wherever we may serve.

Be still and Reflect: Where is Christ calling you to abide and trust in his power and presence in your life?

Pray: Lord God, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, who grants me the same royal authority and power to share the good news boldly and confidently. As I face challenges and uncertainties, may I abide in Your power and presence, trusting in Your strength to guide me. Help me to recognize and trust in your provision wherever you call me to share hope, encourage the broken-hearted, advocate for justice, and serve in a way that embodies Your love and compassion. In the name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray, Amen.Top of Form
