Read: 2 Timothy 1:7  The Call that Changes History

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid,
but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7, NLT

The advertisement changed history. Appearing in 1822 in the Missouri Gazette & Public Advertiser, the ad called for one hundred men “to ascend the river Missouri on its source, there to be employed for one, two, or three years.” The goal … to attract men who would search the American West for fur.

Those who responded left familiar surroundings to journey into the unknown. They did not know what they might encounter nor how long they would be gone. The risks they faced were high. Some lost their lives. Yet, in the process, they revolutionized the fur-trading industry and opened previously unexplored territory. They paved the way for future generations to flourish in a new land.

Countless times I felt God calling me to pioneer in “an unknown land.” He called me to leave all that was familiar and go without knowing exactly where I was headed or what I would face once I got there. He called away from one job in search of another; from one familiar industry to one where I had no knowledge or experience; led me away from one community to discover another. Yet, in each change, I flourished in unexpected ways.

God calls us daily to take our faith into unknown territory. And note: whatever got us to where we were yesterday may not necessarily get us where God leads us today. The terrain may be rough. We will surely stumble and struggle at times. Yet, we can trust that our faithful God, through the power of His Holy Spirit in us, is with us every step of the way. Responding to His call will change history – ours, others, and that of future generations.

Be still and Reflect: What is God calling you to do in the next stage or season of your life? Will you trust in His love, power, and presence to journey forward?

Pray: Gracious, Almighty, and Ever-Present God, take my hand as I intentionally step into the unknown of each new day. Open my ears to hear and my heart to experience the love and enabling power with which Your Spirit’s leads me. May all that I think, say, and do serve as a reflection of my Lord Jesus Christ and bring glory to Your name. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

By His Grace,
Gloria
