The Way Home
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV
The Way Home is a Hallmark series that follows a group of individuals who find themselves at a crossroads in life. As they navigate personal struggles, they embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing through a mysterious pond on Grandmother Del’s property. This pond has the ability to transport those who fall into it back in time where they meet others in their younger years and gain greater insight into life-changing events.
After several trips back in time, the mother, Kat, realizes, “The pond takes you where you need to go. Not where you want to go.”
This pond is like the Word of God. It teaches us where we need to go, not necessarily where we always want to go. It navigates our course not according to our fleeting and self-serving desires, but in alignment with God’s greater goodness and purpose. Scriptures and the living waters of Jesus Christ flow effortlessly through its words to guide us, often in directions we least expect. The Word teaches us the art of surrender – to relinquish our need for control and instead to follow the flow of where the Lord’s deeper wisdom takes us.
Though God may lead us through unforeseen bends in the stream of life, each turn holds a purpose. Each ripple is a lesson to be learned or a ministry to offer. So, in times of uncertainty, when winds of change or challenges blow through our hearts or in the world around us, we can trust and embrace the wisdom of God. It transcends our limited perspective.
God carries us, not where we want to go, but to where we need to go. He reminds us that a greater force is at work – One who knows the way home.
Reflect: How can you cultivate a deeper sense of surrender in your life, trusting in God’s guidance even when it takes you in unexpected directions?
Pray: Lord God, in the midst of life’s uncertainties and challenges, grant me the grace to surrender my need for control and to follow where Your Spirit leads, knowing You always guide me to where I need to be. Amen.
