“I Don’t Know”
I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock making my steps secure.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.
Psalm 40:1-3, ESV
Did you know there’s a prayer called the “I don’t know” prayer? A friend sent it to me, and it fit perfectly for some life questions I pondered.
The prayer directs us to go somewhere quiet and sit at the feet of God, praying,
Lord, I don’t know. I don’t know where to go from here. I don’t know what is happening. I don’t know how to process this. I don’t know what to do with these emotions. I don’t know how to handle this situation.
Then with whatever little grain of faith we have, we say, “but You know.” We leave our lack of understanding, awareness, and confusion there at His feet. And wait on Him. God most certainly hears our prayer and knows exactly what we need.
Reflect: How does this prayer fit a circumstance or question on your heart? How do you wait on the Lord for direction before rushing into bringing closure?
Pray: Lord, I don’t know. I don’t know where to go from here, but You do. I don’t know what is happening, but You do. I don’t know how to process this or what to do with these emotions, but You do. I don’t know how to handle this situation, but You do. Lord, hear my cry. I put my trust in You only. And wait for You. In the name of Your Son, Amen.
