Day 20
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure
that somebody hid in a field,
which someone else found and covered up.
Full of joy, the finder sold everything and bought that field.
Matthew 13:44, CEB
Joy in Hidden Treasures
When COVID-19 lockdowns began, our lives, like those of many others, were turned upside down. Eric and I had recently moved to Texas, and we were expecting our second child, Hazel. The anticipation of welcoming a new baby into our family was mixed with the uncertainty and fear that the pandemic brought.
During this time, I often felt isolated and overwhelmed. The support systems I once relied on were no longer available, and the typical joys of pregnancy were overshadowed by the restrictions and challenges of the lockdown. However, in the midst of this, I found a hidden treasure — an unexpected depth of faith and resilience.
This Matthew 13:44 verse resonates with me when I reflect on this time. Despite the trials, the joy of holding our newborn daughter made all the sacrifices and struggles worthwhile. It reminded me that sometimes, the most precious treasures are found in the most challenging times.
The blessings of this period were not immediately visible but were discovered through day-to-day perseverance and deepening faith. Our family grew stronger through the sacrifices we made, like giving up normal routines and support systems, and embracing the uncertainties of the pandemic. This mirrored the finder’s willingness to give up everything for the treasure.
Reflect: What unexpected treasures have you discovered during challenging times? How have trials strengthened your faith and resilience?
Pray: Dear God, thank You for the hidden treasures You place in my life, especially in times of trial. Help me to recognize and cherish these blessings. May my faith be strengthened through my challenges, and may I find joy in Your promises. As I prepare for Christmas, let me hold onto the joy that comes from the treasure of knowing Jesus. Amen.
