Tuesday, November 21, 2023:
Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.
Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-24
Instead of providing you with a devotional today, I thought I’d change things up a bit. Make sure you are sitting somewhere comfortable opening yourself up to receiving whatever the Holy Spirit gifts you with during this time. I know this practice is difficult for some of you because sitting comfortably and being still is not part of who you are. You are analytical and like to know how this reading impacts my life today. It is okay. I hear you. I simply invite you to try something different today and embrace the process.
Be Still: Read through these verses one time. Read through them a second time. As you read the scriptures for a second time pay attention to what God is saying to you and if anyone comes to mind. Pray for whatever comes to mind, whether it is a situation or an individual. You can also pray for yourself, celebrating and recognizing the abundance of grace and peace you’ve experienced in your lifetime. See the hope, the positivity, and the goodness in all things today.
Pray: Welcoming God, in your presence we find tremendous comfort and peace. Guide us to sit in the space in between of welcoming this new day and going out to greet the world. In our reading of scripture, in our going out and coming back in, awaken our sense to what it means to be pursue the good for each other and everyone else through our speaking, thinking, and acting. As we pray for the world to hang onto what is good today, speak to us once more, your message of peace. Amen
