Friday, December 8, 2023:
Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.
Read: Jeremiah1:4-10
“I don’t know anything. I’m only a child.” I can certainly identify with Jeremiah’s reluctance to step into his call as a prophet in troubling times. Overwhelming or burdensome circumstances awaited him. No wonder he felt ill-equipped and inexperienced. Sound familiar?
Yet that is exactly who God chose – the weakest and least likely who thought they had nothing to give. The one who, because of his lowly status and lack of credentials or experience, was the most unexpected source of divine prophecy. The most unexpected was the most likely to catch people’s attention and glorify God. God takes responsibility for the outcomes. We need only take responsibility for obeying and doing our best.
Be still and Reflect: What purpose, task, or call are you avoiding that you know you should do? What is causing you to avoid it?
Pray: Faithful God, I trust You…but help me where I lack trust. Remind me, Lord, that You called me to Yourself, to love You, and to fulfill the purposes for which You created me in the first place. You created me for more than I can imagine. Empower me to make the best of whatever circumstances I find myself in, no matter how impossible they seem. Provide me with the wisdom and love to bless those around me, no matter how difficult or different they appear. Through the power of Your Holy Spirit, I pray. Amen.
