Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray.
Read: Psalm 98: 4-6
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.
During the season of Advent and Christmas one of the greatest gifts I receive is the joyful singing, of wonder and praise from the choir. The power of collective voices is a joyous reminder how the tradition of hymns and the many people over time who have lifted their voices in songs of praise during their season of life.
These words from the Psalmist celebrate tradition and the joyful melody of the universal chorus. The psalmist calls all the earth to shout for joy, and we do lift our voices in praise and gratitude for the birth of our Savior. How do the melodies of our songs and hymns resonate with the joy to fill your heart during Christmas? May all the melodies reflect the love and adoration you have for God and for neighbor.
Pray: Joyous God, we come before you with humble hearts, seeking your presence and guidance. Thank you for the gift of prayer and the melodies of the songs of our hearts. We lift our voice in prayer and praise as we reflect on your love in our life. Amen
