March 14, 2024 – Draw Near
Thursday, March 14, 2024:
Pause. Pray. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.
Read: Jeremiah 29:11-13 Draw Near…With All Your Heart
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord,
plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you.
When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart,
(Jeremiah 29:11-13, NRSVUE)
Do you remember what it feels like to search for something you lost, such as a valuable, your health, or a loved one; or to search for relief or a way through a never-ending maze of hardship that just keeps pounding you without mercy? Do you remember the fervency and determination that drove you to not stop until you found what you were looking for?
That’s the kind of search of which God speaks through the prophet Jeremiah for those who wish to draw near to Him. The Lord beautifully unveils His assurance that our lives are not random, but intricately woven into His purpose for all creation – to once again be reconciled and in right relationship with Him, our Creator. That purpose includes His promise and plans for our future filled with hope and prosperity … but for those who draw near to Him.
Our journey toward this promised future begins with drawing near to God. God never pushes His way into our hearts. Instead, He invites us to open our hearts; to sit in communion with Himself; to share our hopes, fears, and dreams. And God listens. The Almighty inclines His ear when we wholeheartedly – not half-heartedly – draw near.
Drawing near to God is not a passive act; it’s a dynamic and intentional posture of the heart. As we seek Him, our understanding of His plans deepens, our hope in His promises solidifies, and our uncertainties in life find their anchor in His unchanging character.
Be Still and Reflect: How intentional are you in drawing near to God? In what ways can you enhance your wholehearted seeking of Him to experience the peace and hope He promises?
Pray: Heavenly Father, Teach me to draw near to You intentionally, opening my heart and seeking You with a wholehearted devotion. And in so doing, may I experience the depth of Your presence and the clarity of Your plans. Guide me on this journey of drawing near, that I may live in the fullness of Your promises and find hope in Your unwavering love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
By His Grace,
Gloria
