Renewed

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewal of your mind,
that by testing you may discern what is the will of God,
what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2, ESV

Since before last Thanksgiving and Christmas, one word has relentlessly dogged my thoughts, devotions, and experiences…RENEW.

The Hebrew verb chadash translates as “to renew” or “to restore” (Strong’s Hebrew #2318). It paints a picture of something being made new, refreshed, or returned to its original state. Scripture applies this concept both physically and spiritually—renewing broken bodies and restoring weary hearts.

Recently, I learned that the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) adopted the motto, “The Future Demands Different.” These words gripped my imagination. They reflect the university’s commitment to innovation, forward thinking, and redefining how students prepare to thrive in a rapidly changing, tech-driven world. The phrase inspires action—leading change, rather than just reacting to it, through creative problem-solving.

The Apostle Paul’s words in Romans 12:2 invite Christians to embrace a similar challenge: Transformation Demands Daily Renewal. Transformation isn’t passive; it requires intentional reflection, surrender, and the ongoing renewal of our minds in alignment with God’s Word. It demands that we remain open to divine insight that shifts our perspectives, refines our emotions, and transforms our actions.

True daily renewal invites us to see the world through God’s lens, a vision that redefines everything—relationships, challenges, and opportunities. It’s like a kaleidoscope turning in our hands, unveiling a vibrant new pattern. This renewal doesn’t merely adapt to life’s interruptions or disruptions—it embraces them as tools in God’s hands, shaping us for His purposes.

To live a life renewed daily is to walk with an expectant heart, ready to step into the unknown paths God unfolds before us. It means welcoming the unexpected and trusting that each turn, no matter how unfamiliar, is part of His redemptive plan.

Reflect: What interruptions or unexpected moments in your life could God be using to renew your heart and align your perspective with His purposes? How can you remain alert and open to view the world or personal circumstances through His lens?

Pray: Father, thank You for Your unending work of renewal in my life. Help me to embrace the unexpected and trust in Your plans. Renew my mind with Your Word and transform my heart to see life through Your eyes. Lead me boldly down the paths You’ve prepared and give me courage to embrace the future You are shaping for me. Amen.
