Pause. Read. Be still. Write. Pray. Go about your day or turn in for the night.

April 18, 2024.

Read: Psalm 78:1 Listen, my people, to my teaching; tilt your ears toward the words of my mouth.

Be Still: I read a reflection a while ago that covered the importance of listening, especially as it relates to prayer. The key ingredient in the reflection was recalling how the God who created all the sounds of the world, does not speak to us with great force, but instead, God prefers to whisper. A soft simple, gentle whisper that comes to us through a thought, or an internal nudge, not usually heard by the ear, but instead felt by the heart. All that is required of us, is to be still, and to listen with intention.

To hear God’s voice with intention is a choice we must make when we enter conversation with God. This spiritual practice takes patience and a willingness to open ourselves up to believing that God has something to say to us, whether we want to hear it or not. God will help us to see our wrongs, comfort us, and guide us in our calling to serve, but God will not shout with force or aggression – thank you, God.

After you read this devotional, I encourage you to sit in the stillness of this very moment to let go of worry and the to do lists ready for you to complete. Take this time to be in the presence of the Lord, to listen with intention. I pray you experience the divine in a new and holy way today.
Prayer: Speak God, your servant is listening.

Together,
we are held,
in God’s love.
