A Psalm of Sufficient Grace

“But he said to me,
‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses,
so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
 2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV

After hip replacement surgery,
I willed my right leg to move–
To raise from the therapy mat as instructed.
By my power alone,
not even a sliver of daylight
appeared beneath my leg.
Then the Master heard my cry:
“My grace is sufficient; embrace your weakness.
Receive My strength, My power.”
I knew He could, but would He?
Yielding, and offered a gait belt to assist,
my heel cleared the therapy mat.
The One who raised the dead,
Now lifted my dead-weight leg.
Pain endured, hope surged.
Praise God who IS my gait belt and strength,
Praise Him for His steadfastness.
Praise Him for His unending love.
For His grace that is sufficient
and that will lift us
Every time. Always.
Amen.

Reflect: When have you felt powerless, and how did you experience God’s provision of strength in that moment?

Is there an area of your life where you need to shift your mindset from striving in your own strength to resting in God’s grace?

Pray: Lord, my strength and my stronghold, I surrender my weakness to You. Where my strength fails, let Your power rise and complete me. Teach me to embrace my limitations, knowing that Your grace sustains me. May I rely not on my own ability but on Your unwavering faithfulness. Lift me, Lord, and let my life testify to Your strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
